Come and enjoy the fantastic workshops on offer over the two days leading up to the Hampton Festival on Sunday 21 May.  Learn new skills and follow your passion at one of these food and art experiences conducted by experts in their field.  There are four really exciting workshops to choose from. CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES at Reflections-Lake Cooby

Activities for children between the ages of 8-16 will be run by the experienced staff at Relections-Lake Cooby during the ‘Draw & Pour’ and beer tasting workshops. Activities will include canoeing, rock climbing & high ropes.                                                                                                                        Ticket options include:

    Cheesemaking with Graham redhead

    Equal parts craft, science, and sheer gastronomic indulgence, home cheesemaking is something every aspiring foodie should learn. Our four hour, practical cheesemaking workshops will guide you through the process of transforming milk into delicious  cheese, helping you to understand the method and the relevance of each step in the process. You will get to hand-make three types of cheese and at the end of the workshop, take them home to enjoy. 

     Lead by Graham Redhead, an expert cheesemaker who has trained in Italy, France and the UK, the workshops are great if you are a complete novice but also excellent for people with previous cheesemaking experience that want to refine or learn new techniques.  

     Each participant will be provided with a comprehensive handout with cheesemaking recipes, tips and additional information, enabling you to get started at home. Learn about which ingredients and equipment to use, how to use goat milk instead of cow milk, how to make a large batch or a small batch of cheese and many other tips.

     Places are limited to maximise personal instruction with Graham, so book early for a fun and informative experience with a master of his craft.

    Draw and Pour with don milner and peter orr

    Looking for a visual arts workshop with a delicious twist? Join renowned Sunshine Coast based artist Don Milner, and Queensland College of Wine Tourism’s Peter Orr, for a unique two and half hour experience combining art with wine. Learn about the art of winemaking and taste some of Queensland’s best drops, while being guided through the art of charcoal drawing.

     Under Don’s watchful eye, you will be provided with practical guidance to create your own artistic masterpieces. With more than 25 years worth of experience and many successful exhibitions, he is an enthusiastic and energetic artist, renowned for his generous and creative workshops.

     Don says that charcoal drawing allows us to create powerful marks and visually interesting images, so come along and creatively immerse yourself in an exciting and expressive medium while gaining a new appreciation for the “fruit of the vine”.

    Each participant will receive -   an individual art pack;  McGregor apron or t-shirt;  and a wine glass keepsake.

    Beer Appreciation with matt kirkegaard

    Workshop One: Introduction to Beer and Cheese – Masterclass
    Join Matt Kirkegaard, also known as BeerMatt, and discover there's more to beer than you ever imagined. Far from being a 'blokes-only' beverage, you will treated to a specialist class in beer appreciation looking at the world of beer and how the complex flavours can pair with cheese. The workshop incorporates education in beer ingredients, styles and flavours and how to present and taste beer. It's the perfect introduction to the wider aspects of beer, beyond the stubby…. and will include how to match food with various styles of beer. Price includes all beer tasting, cheese and notes.

    Workshop Two: Beer sensory class                                                                              We all know that there is a multitude of glasses available for wine tasting and that the size and shape of the glass affects how we perceive the flavours of wine. This is every bit as true for beer. While the traditional beer glass is designed to be cheap and robust, it does little to enhance the flavour of your favourite ale or lager. If you are sceptical, pit your taste buds against some of the best beer glasses on the market, the Spiegelau range of glasses.  Matt will take you through four very different beer styles, each sampled across four very different glasses to highlight that a great glass is as important as a great beer. Be prepared to be amazed at the difference a glass makes.

    Matt Kirkegaard is a Brisbane-based freelance beer writer who has developed a national reputation as one of the few independent beer educators and advocates in Australia. Matt is passionate about beer and his enthusiasm is infectious. His workshops are light-hearted but with a focus on educating about and elevating beer.

    Harvest, Cook and Dine with Paul West

    Join chef, farmer and River Cottage Australia host Paul West for a genuine patch to plate experience. Tour Hampton’s Half Moon Farm and harvest vegetables from its market garden, then stroll to the Hampton Festival site at Chapman Park and join Paul in an interactive cooking class. Cook up a storm using the just-picked ingredients then dine on the dishes you helped create. Dinner will be accompanied by local wines and you will enjoy a live music preview from one of our special Hampton Festival guest artists.  An inspirational and delicious way to spend an autumn afternoon.
